First Thoughts on Meet the Press and Political Violence in America

I appreciate the Congresspersons on Meet the Press today, and their unanimous opinion that it is vitriol on both sides that contributes to political violence in our culture.

I know a lot of my friends are leftists (I myself am non-partisan, with liberal inclinations) and they like to think this is all about the right. But now they must face the fact that Democrats and progressives spent two years alienating massive groups of people–starting with fellow Democrats–by insisting they were racists without any evidence. And the right will have to face that they too have alienated massive groups of people with rhetoric about socialism, killing government, etc, again without any evidence. Both of these groups contributed to the culture that created their bastard child, Jared Lee Loughner.

Both sides also need to deal with their internalized hatred of women, which is the main reason this happened. It’s not like this guy went after John McCain, Rep. Grijalva, the mayor of Tuscon, or any of the other male politicians that Loughner could have targeted. He targeted her because as a culture we accept targeting women for violence, and we blame them for shit they can’t possibly be responsible for. We also hate them far more than we hate men for the very same actions, such as having different beliefs or having the gall to hold public office.

Boy did you ever nail tht one! We have POTUS telling people to destroy their enemies but not a sould is bring that up either. Instead the left is going after Palin – a woman ie: from the Daily Beast and others

” Giffords was one of 20 Democrats on the target list that Sarah Palin posted before the election, which featured the crosshairs of a gun site over each member’s district.”

It’s been taken down since the shooting—but can’t be erased from the blogs. Not only was a female shot – a female is being accused at fault for causing it!

As soon as I get back from the hospital I will be posting a few tidbits I found like the Daily Kos who also targettted her :

“The first vote she cast in this new Congress as one of some 20 Democrats opposing Nancy Pelosi as minority leader drew a Daily Kos screed titled “My Congresswoman voted against Pelosi, now she’s dead to me.”

After the shooting, Daily Kos removed that post from the site.

Will we see Obama spewing his hateful vitriol of destrouing our enemies all over the place? I wonder why not – it is clear this guy is a left winger- according to his friends and “The Communist Manifesto” and Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” were among the favorite reading materials of Jared Lee Loughner.

I got A LOT of shit for saying this was a gender-based crime that reflected our culture’s misogynistic tendencies, but it’s looking more and more like I was correct in that assessment. If people want stuff like this to stop happening, they should examine their own commitment to our nation’s girls and women, and how their words, actions, and indeed inactions, have contributed to this culture.
