Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State:Updated with Orange Satan reaction

Come on, folks. You can be as frustrated and angry as you want to be over Hillary Clinton’s participation in the election of Barack Obama. I’ve expressed some frustration myself, as well as some understanding for her difficult position. But the news broke today that she may or may not have been offered the position of Secretary of State, and people are saying she shouldn’t take it?

35% of PUMAs voting in a poll over at PUMApac said she shouldn’t take it. Joseph Cannonfire is on board with wanting her to decline it. I understand the reticence, but think people, please. 30% does not just apply to elected positions. And what good is it to get out of the game and hold the pattern for another 4-8 years? No, we’ve got to take every opportunity. Who cares if she will be vilified by the Progressive Dude Nation? She obviously doesn’t. I hope she takes it, if indeed it was offered. She’d be a damn sight better choice than John “The Definition of Impotence” Kerry. And at least we would know that one office was going to be competently led.

Be mad, but don’t cut off your nose to spite your face. Sheesh.

In other news, the United States named it’s first ever female 4 Star General, General Ann Dunwoody. This is an important step, and it should be noted that it occurred under a Republican administration. She was nominated by George W. Bush for the post in June. General Dunwoody had this to say at her swearing in ceremony:

“This promotion has taken me back in time like no other event in my entire life,” she said. “And I didn’t appreciate the enormity of the events until tidal waves of cards, letters, and e-mails started coming my way.

“And I’ve heard from men and women, from every branch of service, from every region of our country, and every corner of the world. I’ve heard from moms and dads who see this promotion as a beacon of home for their own daughters and after affirmation that anything is possible through hard work and commitment.

“And I’ve heard from women veterans of all wars, many who just wanted to say congratulations; some who just wanted to say thanks; and still other who just wanted to say they were so happy this day had finally come.”

Update: Oh, good lord, you knew it was coming. On the wreck-list, a diary already accusing the Clinton Machine of engineering this story. (Daily Kos link–click at your own peril). It’s actually a response to Olbermann, who is oh-so paranoid (also DK link) that it may be *gasp!* true! I mean, it came from Andrea Micthell! (Big fat eye roll)

I sure would feel a lot more secure with Hillary negotiating with other nations on our behalf!

Bloggers have been stating that they don’t want Hillary as SOS because she’ll be blamed if things go wrong and BHO might be declared a success if she helps things go right. I believe that his reign will be a disaster, but I’m not going to wish a disastrous 4 years on those of us who were against him, just so I can say “I told you so.” I think she can prevent many disastrous problems caused by BHO.

He is surrounding himself with Clinton’s people. I think he knows he’s in way over his head and is thinking of making it as easy on himself as possible and leaving a good legacy, just like Bush (well, he tried! And who knows, history might be altered in his favor, like with Reagan.) Therefore, I think he might actually listen to Hillary.

BHO hates women, especially strong white women. I expect women in his administration to be well below 30%. I would like to think that he was forced to pick Hillary for political expediency and, as you say, will be one more woman in a powerful role.

Although we PUMAs were disgusted and upset with BHO’s campaign tactics, I wonder if politicians believe that dirty tricks are part of politics and that is why the Clinton’s were able to forgive BHO and back him. I also think the Clinton’s remembered how he was an outsider like Bill had been and felt a need to help BHO.

All these things considered, I would not be surprised if Hillary became SOS. I would not be surprised if BHO reverted to his childhood dependence on strong white women and actually listened to her, even if it was just political expediency to save his ass.

I think Hillary should stay in the Senate and become Majority Leader. I think her talents would be better used as a legislator. And, I don’t want Obama to have the ability to fire her and blame her for his upcoming f*ckups.

I don’t think this is cutting off my nose to spite my face.
