What’s Going On

Okay, I’m not one to buy into a conspiracy theory with no proof, and I certainly don’t create them. If enough data accumulates, I may decide that some aspect of a CT holds water, and something is definitely up.

Now that said, here are the first three stories I read today:

Bill Gwatney, a Democratic Senator in the Arkansas State Senate and the head of the Arkansas Democratic Delegation, was murdered last week. Gwatney was a Hillary supporter, natch. The circumstances surrounding his death were very odd indeed:

Gwatney, 48, died Wednesday afternoon after an assailant forced his way into his office at the state Democratic Party headquarters in Little Rock and opened fire on him for still unknown reasons. The suspect, Timothy Dale Johnson of Searcy, Ark., was shot and killed by police officers after a 30-mile chase. Court documents released Thursday showed that investigators found a Post-It note with Gwatney’s name on it in Johnson’s home.

Weird, huh? Sounds like either a hit job (post-it note), or a schizoid break for his killer, Johnson. He does show some pretty flat affect in his picture. Of course, he’s dead now too, so we may never know.

So then I stroll over to Alegre’s place, where I discover that U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, who is scheduled to host a luncheon with Hillary Clinton next Tuesday for the launch of the group WomenCount, is in the hospital. She was found unconscious in her car. She is also a Hillary supporter and delegate. And the circumstances here are also weird:

The Ohio Democrat was taken to the Huron Road Hospital in East Cleveland after police found her sitting unconscious in her pulled over car around 9 p.m. Before being found unconscious, police told a local television station, officers tried to pull over Tubbs Jones for driving over the speed limit.

Finally, I stopped by the Politico, and found that Dianne Feinstein has broken her ankle and cannot attend the convention. She was to lead the California delegation and was a huge Hillary supporter. Here’s the story on that, as reported at Politico:

Feinstein slipped and broke her ankle on Friday while talking a walk in the Tahoe forest in California with Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-Calif.) the senator said in a statement Tuesday.

Now, I will not cast aspersions, or guess at a coordination of effort, but I will say that I find it mighty weird that three very powerful Hillary supporters, including two heads of important state delegations (Arkansas and California) are now prevented from attending the Convention next week. And I will be watching the news for more stories like this. You should too.

UPDATE: Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones was removed from life support at 12:19 today and died shortly thereafter. P&L offers condolences to Ms. Tubbs Jones’ family and constituencies.

UPDATE the Second: Well, the Cleveland Plain Dealer has pulled the article reporting Tubb Jones’ death, and artemis of Alegra’s Corner is now reporting that she is still in critical condition. The press is reporting both that she died and that she’s still in critical condition. We’ll update again as we know more.

UPDATE the Third: Stephanie Tubbs Jones has died. Our condolences go out to her family, friends and constituencies. I have no idea what this means for the luncheon next week. Will post details as they become available. What an incredible loss.

Annabelle, I first heard about Stephanie Tubbs Jones late last night. And I have to tell you – I had the same creepy feeling. Right now, I’m just feeling profound shock about Tubbs Jones. She was such a dynamo and such a fighter. One of the good ones.

If this keeps up we are going to have to start an Obama Death List. Maybe the right wing bats already have.

I’ve been wondering about these two events.

FW: Unflagging Hillary Supporters Perpetuating “Bitter Madwoman” Stereotype

“The members of P.U.M.A., that utterly inane group of outraged Hillary
Clinton supporters who insist on “being heard and heeded” in their continued support of Clinton for President, also seek, according to their mission statement , “to critique and oppose the misogyny, discrimination, and disinformation in the mainstream media, including mainstream blogs and other outlets of new media.” However, as Slate’s Dahlia Lithwick points out, the P.U.M.As are perpetuating female stereotypes just as aggressively as they allegedly hope to debunk them.” Read Rest of article here:
